Dr. Alfred Watkins Joins the AUCC as Senior Director of STEM-Social Sciences (STEM-S) and Data Science Initiatives 

The Atlanta University Center Consortium proudly announces the hiring of Dr. Alfred Watkins as the new Senior Director of STEM-S and Data Science Initiatives. Dr. Watkins brings a wealth of experience in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and data-driven strategy, positioning AUCC to expand its leadership in innovation, education, and workforce development. 

Dr. Watkins is a recognized leader with extensive expertise in STEM education and workforce development, data science strategy and implementation, innovation ecosystems, emerging technologies and public-private partnerships that drive economic growth. Throughout his career, Dr. Watkins has worked at the intersection of policy, education, and industry, helping organizations build sustainable, future-focused programs that strengthen technological capacity and talent pipelines.  

Dr. Watkins said, “I am honored to join the AUCC at a time when STEM and data science are central to innovation and opportunity. I look forward to working collaboratively to expand access, build capacity, and create impactful programs that empower learners and communities.” 

As Senior Director, Dr. Watkins will: 

• Lead the strategic development of AUCC’s STEM-S (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Social Sciences) initiatives 

• Oversee the expansion of data science programs across member institutions 

• Expand the Data Science Initiative to an Institute 

• Foster partnerships with industry, government, and academic stakeholders 

• Drive innovation in curriculum design and experiential learning opportunities 

• Support workforce readiness in high-demand technical fields 

Dr. Watkins will play a key role in advancing AUCC’s mission to enhance access to high-quality STEM education and promote interdisciplinary collaboration across our institutions. His leadership is expected to support transformative programs that prepare students for success in an increasingly data-centric global economy.
