The member institutions of the Atlanta University Center Consortium (AUCC) continue to operate with the safety and well being of our community at the forefront of all decision making. The presidents of the Atlanta University Center Consortium member institutions have decided that it is in the best interest of our students, faculty and staff to postpone the traditional Olive Branch gathering scheduled for Sunday, August 15. This decision is made in recognition of a surge in the Delta variant of Covid-19 in our state and in Fulton County that has caused an increase in cases and overcrowding in hospitals, emergency rooms, and intensive care units (ICU) locally and across the nation. We will reconsider once our science team evaluates the relevant data concerning community spread in Fulton County, the City of Atlanta and on the campuses.
We understand that Olive Branch is the celebration that encourages first-year students from all campuses to gather for an opportunity to participate in an official AUCC unity ceremony. However, the health and well being of AUCC community members is of the utmost importance; thus, the leadership has decided that limiting such large-scale gatherings is the wisest course of action.
