Holiday traditions are dear to all of us. This year we are in a different position than the last Thanksgiving/ Christmas holiday season. We have strong tools in our arsenal to help enjoy the holiday traditions and protect the health and well-being of ourselves and our loved ones. Chief among these tools are highly effective vaccines. The vaccines have been remarkably effective in reducing the amount of serious illness, hospitalizations, and deaths due to COVID-19. Therefore, the AUCC—based on the latest information, data, and science—recommends that all eligible persons get a booster shot BEFORE leaving for the holiday break. The vaccine is the best way to minimize COVID-19 risk and keep family and friends safe. We are also recommending that all within our community get the Flu shot, as well. As always, continue to properly wear your mask by securely covering both mouth and nose while indoors (particularly if you are not fully vaccinated). Even those who are fully vaccinated should wear a mask indoors in locations where the community transmission is high and in crowd situations. And, of course continue to practice good hand-washing hygiene and other common-sense practices. If you are sick or have symptoms of COVID-19 do not host or attend gatherings.
We wish you all a very pleasant and safe holiday season.
