Annual AUCC Career Fair Welcomes Thousands

Atlanta – The Atlanta University Center Consortium held its annual Career Fair on Friday, Sept 20, welcoming 300 employers to offer jobs, internships, and career opportunities to Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, and Spelman College students. For the 2nd year, UNCF Empower Me Tour (EMT) partnered with the Atlanta University Center Consortium to prepare the world’s most talented emerging professionals and connect them with companies and organizations that need their innovation, imagination, and expertise.

Last year’s event welcomed nearly 3,000 students from the three AUCC undergraduate institutions. Numbers are forthcoming for this years event. The fair connects students with employers from various industries who are looking for diverse talent, particularly from HBCUs. It provides an opportunity for students to explore internships, full-time positions, and graduate programs. Employers typically range from corporate, government, nonprofit, and education sectors.

For AUC students, it was an excellent opportunity to build professional relationships, practice interview skills, and explore potential career paths.

For recruiters like Tamara Ojeda with TK Elevator it was a chance to meet students one on one.

“We want to continue to build our relationships with AUC and make sure that we recruit great hires for our organization,” she said.

Shaundra Patterson, an AUC alum and  Spelman Class of 09 graduate shared the same sentiments. She’s a Senior Consultant in Public Sector Service with Alvarez & Marsal Management Consulting.  “We want to expand our HBCU outreach, and it is a key component of our core values, which is diversity and inclusion. We’re here looking to meet bright students who are eager to start their careers and so far we’ve met a lot of great students who have a lot to offer and we enjoyed engaging with students, ” she shared.

AUCC Executive Director Dr. Michael Hodge said,  “This career fair is part of a larger strategic engagement of the Atlanta University Center Consortium. Our centralized Career Planning and Placement Center was established in 1966.  Over the years it has grown in both physical size and importantly–impact. This career fair has not only connected thousands of aspiring professionals with meaningful opportunities but has also helped shape the futures of countless individuals, creating pathways to success and ensuring that the next generation of leaders is well-prepared to take on the challenges of tomorrow.”

In addition to career opportunities, students were given the opportunity to register to vote or check their voter status with a nonpartisan voting organization. Career Fair organizers felt this was an important time as any to encourage students to think about their future. Students were able to get free headshots to add to their online presence.
