STATEMENT: MOREHOUSE SCHOOL OF MEDICINE GRADUALLY RESUMES IN-PERSON OPERATIONS, OTHER AUC INSTITUTIONS CONTINUE DELIBERATIVE DECISION MAKING

ATLANTA, Georgia, May 18, 2020 — The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is far reaching and higher education is no exception. The member institutions of the Atlanta University Center— Clark Atlanta University (CAU), Morehouse College, Morehouse School of Medicine, and Spelman College will continue our commitment to keeping our campus community safe, the delivery of high quality academic experiences, and conducting impactful and cutting-edge research as our top priorities.  While most of our campuses and facilities remain closed to all but essential personnel, Morehouse School of Medicine is engaged in a careful and gradual reopening as they fulfill their unique mission to prepare health care professionals to address medical and public health challenges such as COVID-19. The remaining institutions are engaged in a thoughtful and collaborative process to determine how and when to invite students, faculty, and staff back to our campuses for an in-person academic and co-curricular experience. CAU, Morehouse, and Spelman will issue further guidance on the status of campus operations for the fall semester once these in-depth evaluations and planning processes are completed.
