AUC DSI Celebrates End of 2024 School Year

Atlanta –  AUCC Member Institutions play a critical role in the success of the AUC Data Science Initiative in engaging students in data science. AUC’s DSI held its End of Year CELEBRATION April 19th at the Georgia Aquarium.

Each year, the AUC Data Science Initiative honors AUC graduating students and those going on to summer internships and research experiences. Also honored and recognized were AUC faculty, staff, and supporters who continuously support the Initiative. We also honored our graduating seniors and welcomed our new Deputy Director Dr. Ivis King and the AUCC Board of Directors, Dr. George T. French Jr. (Clark Atlanta University),Dr. David A. Thomas (Morehouse College), Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice (Morehouse School of Medicine), Dr. Helene Gayle (Spelman College).

This year, organizers chose to elevate our celebration to a full evening of elegance, complete with a gourmet dining experience, music, and ambiance, as our heartfelt expression of gratitude. More than 100 attendees enjoyed an address from Ms. Kyra Brewer, AUC Data Science Club president, remarks from sponsors, and a presentation of over a dozen graduating seniors who were presented with graduation stoles.

DSI has grown from a regional AUC model to a nationwide expansion of data science across all Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The Initiative continues to accelerate data science education and research to enhance access to opportunities.

Your support has helped us set record attendance at our yearly symposiums, drive collaborations through our affiliate network, leverage the outreach of our DS^3 seminar series, up-skill faculty and students through a variety of workshops, empower our student data science club, stir student confidence in corporate data challenges, and much more. Whether you participated in one of our virtual seminars, taught courses, engaged in meetings, or shared powerful words of motivation, your contribution to our data science community is truly valued!
