AUCC Joins in Mourning Dr. Walker D. Broadnax, 2nd Clark Atlanta University President

Throughout his career, Dr. Walker D. Broadnax alternated between executive-level jobs in public service to teaching and administrative positions in some of America’s finest institutions of higher education including, American University, University of Maryland, Syracuse University, and Clark Atlanta University.

In 2002, Dr. Walter D. Broadnax became president of Clark Atlanta University and served until 2008. Founded as Atlanta University in 1865 and Clark College in 1869, Clark Atlanta University is the largest of the United Negro College Fund institutions with an enrollment of approximately 5,000 students. Under Broadnax’s leadership, Clark Atlanta University became the only private historically Black College or university classified as a Doctoral/Research-Intensive institution by the Carnegie Foundation.

We share in giving our condolences to the Broadnax family and thank him for his eight years of leadership in the Atlanta University Center. A private service and burial will take place in Washington, D.C. A memorial service will take place at Syracuse University in early 2023.
