Earth Day 2024 with the AUCC & HBCUs Outside

AUC We Outside! HBCUs Outside and Atlanta University Center Consortium celebrated Earth Day at the 2024 Earth Day Link-Up activation on April 20th, 2024—a day filled with free giveaways, food, rock climbing, and stewardship.
HBCU’s Outside is a non-profit organization committed to helping students and alums of Historically Black Colleges and Universities get outside and to the top of the outdoor industry. AUC students walked over one mile from the AUCC Office at Roosevelt Hall starting on the campuses of Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College and Spelman College performing a clean-up walk that extended off campus and ending at Lee & White. They enjoyed free rock climbing sessions at The Overlook Boulder + Fitness and lunch & chill at the Westside Outside Festival,  a joint venture of REI Co-op, Greening Youth Foundation and Atlanta Beltline that included a day of free outdoor fun with a fashion show, E-Bike demo, ATL Changemakers panel, live music, climbing wall, mountain bike track, cooking demo, a kids zone, vendors, sweepstakes, and more. Students who attended received $50 gift cards and Nike t-shirts.
Organizers from HBCU Outside have engaged six HBCU’s including Florida A&M and Howard University, are are hoping to engage more to encourage HBCU students to participate in outdoor recreation and hope to encourage students to begin an Outdoor Club to have monthly activities.
